An apparatus designed to raise the temperature of a fluid by bringing it into proximity with another fluid of higher temperature so that heat transfer is effected by direct contact or by passing those fluids through pipe(s), tube(s), or coils which are submerged in a tank of hot water or steam which is supplied from an outside source. The fluid is never stored in this tank. Excludes air conditioning, electric fluid heaters, and refrigeration equipment.
Packing is not required. the unit container shall also serve as the shipping container. closure, sealing and reinforcement shall be in accordance with applicable specification for shipping container.
Packing shall be accomplished in accordance with table c.Ii for the packing level specified. closure, sealing and reinforcement shall be in accordance with the appropriate shipping container specification.

Preserve by method 20 as follows: fog spray or flush internally with preservative indicated by preservation code. all openings shall then be plugged or sealed to prevent entrance of dirt and moisture. exterior unpainted ferrous metal surfaces shall be coated with a suitable paint or enamel, or coated with cold application, nontacky, corrosion preventive compound conforming to mil-prf-16173, grade 4.
