Utilizes orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (ofdm), which is a form of 802.16 wimax; operates in the 5.8 ghz band and provides a bandwidth between 1.5mbps to 48mbps; utilizes 1x1, and 3 foot antennas; the network equipment utilized is comprised of commercial off-the-shelf (cots) network components such as routers and vocality multiplexers for analog phone connectivity; there is also an uninterrupted power supply (ups) to provide backup power to the network and antenna equipment and a gfe provided taclane; system can communicate over hills, around buildings, and through trees for a non line-of-sight capability; system will allow commands to extend nipr, sipr, and dsn to remote sites from any place in their tactical network
